In 1980 in a major upset, the U.S. Olympic hockey team defeated the Soviets 4–3 at Lake Placid, New York.

Spain ceded Florida to the United States on this day in history 1819.

Calvin Coolidge made the first presidential radio broadcast  in 1924 from the White House.

Airplanes were no longer permitted to fly over the White House on this day in history 1935.
