Winston Churchill died in London at age 90 in 1965.

Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American to be a member of the Supreme Court, died in 1993.

Gold was first discovered in California, at a place called Sutter’s mill. When President Polk announced the news in December, the gold rush began in 1848.

Robert Baben-Powell organized the first Boy Scout troop in England on this day in history 1908.

On this day in history 1943 the Casablanca Conference with Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill concluded.
